With 1,400 employees, Schwan-STABILO Group is the European market leader in writing implements. With its new Education department, the company is using its specific knowledge and expertise to teach children writing skills.
Knowledge of the school system and sales structures
We recently incorporated our broad experience, knowledge, and expertise in writing and teaching writing into a new department: STABILO Education. Through this new international sales organisation, we primarily offer pedagogical teaching, practice, and study opportunities to primary schools. We approached Velde Gruppe GmbH for support setting up a sales organisation for the Dutch market.
Always available and flexible
Our main requirement was that our new account manager in the Netherlands was acquainted with both the Dutch school system and the sales structures within the Dutch education sector. Working together with Velde Gruppe GmbH’s Sharon Keuvelaar and Remco Spooren was a pleasant, informal experience. Where necessary, they addressed our needs with flexibility. They were always available and we could sense their solidarity with the organisation.

They quickly succeeded in finding someone who could address our Dutch customers’ needs with enthusiasm and who could provide valuable feedback for our new concepts. We are happy with our motivated colleague in the Netherlands. In short, a pleasant collaboration.

Successfully combining education and sales
Education and pedagogy are wonderful fields; you can contribute to the development of children, after all. I have held various commercial positions in this sector over the past 10 years. I was able to combine my sales qualities with a social purpose. I am in touch with pedagogues and education specialists and learn from them every day. The budgets are under pressure though. Success does not come easy for the companies in this line of work. I see it as a challenge and enjoy working on a business model to reach business objectives.
Tips for international job applications
I knew Stabilo from their ergonomic writing implements for children. When Sharon Keuvelaar from Velde Group brought the position to my attention, I was immediately interested. The scientifically supported program to teach children to write, appealed to me. I knew Sharon from mediation for a position at a large education consultancy service. She again asked me about my ambitions and expectations before introducing me to Stabilo. The international environment was new to me. Sharon gave me tips for the interview and other aspects that exist with an international employer.
Stabilo Writing Campus for the Netherlands
As account manager for Stabilo Education, I now draw the attention of education and day-care institutions to the Stabilo Writing Campus programme (www.stabilo-education.nl). The programme consists of training courses, a teaching kit, and products to help children have fun learning to write legibly. The programme allows toddlers to playfully practice fine motor skills. I am certain that my creativity, tenacity, and sales experience will help me be successful in this independent job.
